Geek Corner

Audio Transfer - San Diego

Reel-to-Reel Audio

Reel-to-reel audio is recorded at many different speeds. The most common speeds for home use were:1⅞ IPS (Inches Per Second), 3¾ IPS, and 7½ IPS. We can also transfer studio quality reels. These usually run at 15 IPS or 30 IPS.

While we can start recording at the speed which sounds most natural, if the speed changes mid-reel, some parts may sound distorted and slow, while others may sound way too fast (the "chipmunk effect"). Please refer to our audio restoration service to fix these speed changes.

Transferring to MP3

While CDs are the most convenient format for most customers, we can transfer your audio into just about any file format you can think of. You can specify bit rate, number of channels as well as hertz for your custom MP3 or WAV file. The default MP3 settings are 320 kilobits per second at 44,100 hertz.
