Before converting your whole entire collection of video tapes to DVD, there’s actually a few things to think about. With all of the different options available, you’ll want to make sure you get all of the specifications you’re looking for prior to bringing in your video tape transfer. These are just some points to think about, as not everyone is aware of all of the different possibilities when it comes to VHS to DVD transfers.

Combine multiple video tapes onto one DVD
This is a popular request, especially for people with many tapes of varying short lengths. When we combine your tapes onto a single disc, keep in mind that we can only fit 2 hours onto a disc, so you’re videos will need to be within that time frame in order for them to all fit on the disc. This option is great for short tapes such as VHS-C and MiniDV, where often times we can fit two or more tapes onto a single disc. We can even also fit video tapes of different types onto the same disc, so you’ll be able to combine a MiniDV tape with a VHS tape, for instance. Each video will also be it’s own independent chapter for easy navigation from the menus.

Chapter Markers
By default, chapter markers are inserted every 10 minutes. Chapter markers are useful because they are similar to scenes in that if you hit the “next chapter” button on your DVD player’s remote, it will skip ahead to the next scene, or chapter. We can also provide custom chapter markers to your videos if you’d like. To make things easier, it’s best to map out exactly what time frames you’d like your markers to be inserted. You can review the tapes at home, or make an appointment to come view them at one of our local offices.

Color Correction
Has the color of your tapes faded over the years? We can help bring back some of the vibrancy of your tapes by running it through our video filters. This will help offset the color deterioration, and improve the colors of your video. Please ask our video tape technicians for more information about color correction.

Video Tape Editing
In addition to transferring your tapes as-is, we can also provide a wide range of editing services to your videos. Blank footage is automatically removed from your DVDs, and you’re only charged for the footage on your tape that you want to keep. No editing job is too big or too small. Jobs range from removing commercials from your favorite television program, or producing a featured clip on television. If you need lots of editing done, you’ll actually need to transfer your video to a hard drive first, so that we can edit the video from one of our computers. Editing video from a DVD is not a good idea, because you’ll be working with compressed video, while transferring to your hard drive will allow you to edit the video in it’s full quality.

One might call these large formats the grandfathers of the analog photo world.

Back to the days when Henry Fox Talbot and Louie Jacques-Mandé Daguerre were fighting for the claim of developing a fixed image we today call a photograph, there was always a struggle for quality. Through time the idea of fixing an image permanently and being able to reproduce it was captivating. The advent of the view camera (aka 4×5, 5×7, 8×10, 11×14 camera etc.) made taking large format photos easy for consumers and professionals alike. So why all the fuss with large format photography? Quality my friends…quality. So good, in fact, that a 4×5 negative can still, to this day, easily beat almost all professional DSLR cameras.

A 4×5 negative, or positive has the ability to produce an image that would fall into the range of 100-200 mp. This would provide astonishing results if used as a source for large format scanning. This being said, you can only imagine the quality of the image and the control of focus you would have when shooting. Trust me when I say there’s no doubt about it, an in-focus large format negative or positive can even show you dirt in pores of a face! The details will captivate you.

Whether you shoot large format film or stumbled upon negatives from the past, adding these images to your archive can be a source of inspiration as well as historical and sentimental value. Any time is a good time to dig up those old negatives or dust off that camera and become inspired.

Finally getting around to scanning your whole box of photographs can be a daunting task, and not something one thinks about on a regular basis. Usually, the only time we think about digitizing our collection of photos is when we trip over them looking for other things. The box of photos, stuffed in the corner in the closet, doesn’t get much viewing time these days due to the work and potential mess involved.

What if there was an extremely easy way to enjoy all of your photos, without taking up a lot of room? Our San Diego photo scanning services can transform your box of photos into a DVD containing all of your images in a digital format. We can scan your still images at up to 600 DPI, and even provide image enhancement and restoration services to your photos to make them look as good as new. Once your photos have been scanned on our premium flatbed scanners, you even have the option to throw them into a digital slideshow that you can set to music and share with your friends online!

Some of the advantages of DVD Your Memories photo scanning services include:

-All photos transferred to 100 year archival DVDs, or onto your personal hard drive.
-All photos are scanned on premium flat-bed scanners. We never use document scanners which can leave streaks in the final images.
-All scanning is done in house, locally in our San Diego office.
-Your images will all be properly rotated and cropped.
-We can divide your photos up into custom folder and file naming structures.
-Custom on-disc labeling

Storing, managing, and cataloging a large library of audio can be a daunting task. Need to move? Did one of your decks just eat a tape? Does a church member … Continue reading →

Storing, managing, and cataloging a large library of audio can be a daunting task. Need to move? Did one of your decks just eat a tape? Does a church member need a copy of one of the sermons? Can’t find the recording with the sermon you’re looking for? When you’ve got thousands tapes, cassettes or reels, just finding what you need quickly can take hours, and organization, maintenance, and distribution make the task of managing the archives a task that very few would look forward to. If your cataloging system has evolved without updating the old media, you’ll be begging for mercy fairly fast. You can stop begging, because we’ve got a solution that will solve all of these problems, and it will turn your archival misery into archival joy.

We can take your current cabinets full of tapes and remove virtually every limitation and liability their current format presents to you. By converting the vast collection of cassettes, records and reel to reel audio to CD, you open a whole new world of options in the digital world.

Need to save space?
We can take 50 years of sermons, literally thousands of audio cassettes, and after digital conversion, store them in the size of a shoe box.

Need to keep them safe from the effects of aging and disaster?
Once you digitize the audio, you can store an extra copy on a second system, in your safe, at the bank, or using one of the many online back-up providers. In their digital format, the quality is the same, regardless of how many times you play them, how many copies you make, or how long they’ve been sitting idle.

Do you want to sell or share access to your congregation?
Once you digitize your media, it’s easy and inexpensive to distribute the files online. Here’s an example of a church that did just that, after we converted their media: http://questhaven.org/audio.asp

Need your library “keyword” searchable, organized and sortable by date, speaker, and times?
When you’re working with digital files, organization becomes a breeze. Find anything you’re looking for with just a few keystrokes instead of searching through case after case. If you use a digital asset management software, record keeping for these files becomes even easier! Your keywords, information, and description link up to the file location on your computer (or server).

In the past, I’ve covered different types of arts and crafts people have made out of their old media such as VHS, slides and photos. This week, we have another entry of VHS and audio cassette tape art that have been crafted entirely of the contents of the tape. This would be awesome to do once you finished transferring your VHS to DVD or your audio cassettes to CD! Unless of course, you still wanted to hold onto the original recording.

Here are some photos of the better pieces I came across:

The Big Lebowski – Crafted from VHS

Alfred Hitchcock – Crafted from old film

John Lennon – Crafted from Audio Cassette

The Cinco de Mayo Trail Run was launched by the Valley Elementary Educational Foundation in 2007 to raise money for Valley Elementary School in Poway. Each year the event has grown, and, in 2010, the race became a fundraising opportunity for several schools in the Poway area. It’s still run by Valley’s Foundation, but the Cinco de Mayo Trail Run is no longer just about one school, it’s now about enhancing educational opportunities for thousands of children across the community and it draws more than 1,000 runners throughout San Diego County and Southern California.

VHS tapes might be obsolete at this point in time, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t all still remember the days of rewinding tapes and fuzzy video. There now exists an awesome coffee table, shaped as three giant wood VHS tapes!

The table features intricately carved details and features commonly found on VHS cassettes, including even seeing through to the reels, and handwritten titles of old 80′s and 90′s movies on the labels. This is a perfect thing to sit in front of when watching your VHS to DVD transfers!
